Strolling to the Polls with the Deltas

The power of our great sisterhood was on full display when the Saginaw Alumnae Chapter teamed up with DJ Hype, a local Saginaw spin master, to host “Strolling to the Polls with the Deltas,” a plan your vote ‘party with a purpose.’

Event moderator and Chapter Social Action Committee Chair Rhonda Farrell-Butler described the event, held two days prior to the election, as, “The final push by our social action committee to get out the vote before the November 3 election.”

Tiffany Riggins, the Chapter’s Divine Nine representative, was the featured speaker for the event, which focused on enhancing participant experience through entertainment while encouraging civic engagement.

“Our aim was to remind voters they could still register, vote and drop off their absentee ballots before 8 p.m. on Election Day at their local township and clerk’s offices,” Farrell-Butler said.

Social Action Committee members involved in planning the overall voter outreach for the Chapter, include: Soror Rhonda Farrell Butler, Chair; Lisa Ingram, Chapter 2nd VP; Sandra Robinson and Anita Richardson.

“Thank you, sisters of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., Saginaw Alumnae Chapter for helping us to get out the vote, for serving as poll workers and phone bank volunteers, for using the power of your voices at the polls, and special thanks to all sorors who supported our final push to get out the vote,” Farrell Butler said.

Fittingly, the Chapter’s first post-election social action commitment is a meeting with the League of Women Voters, Tuesday, November 10, 7 p.m., where Dr. Carolyn Jefferson-Jenkins, 15th President of the LWV, will deliver a presentation via Zoom.
