Sisters Can We Talk – My Beautiful Black Hair

Author of My Beautiful Black Hair…, St. Clair Detrick Jules, will share stories and insights on issues concerning natural black hair Thursday, May 19 at 7 p.m. This online event, which is open to the public, will be followed by a Crown Act Presentation. The program is part the Saginaw Alumnae Chapter’s May Week 2022 activities roster.

May Week originated in 1920 to highlight academic and professional achievements, along with the importance of higher education for Black women.

The C.R.O.W.N. Act, which stands for “Create a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair,” was created in 2019 to ensure protection against race-based hair discrimination.

Participants are encouraged to purchase Jules’ the book from Target’s Black history section and come prepared to engage in conversation. The book is entitled, My Beautiful Black Hair: 101 Stories Natural Hair Stories from the Sisterhood.
