Saginaw Sorority Sisters

Saginaw County does not have adequate African American female representation on its elected boards and commissions.  Immediately after the 2016 Presidential Election, Karen Lawrence-Webster (DST) and Lisa Coney (AKA) attended an EMERGE meeting of women from Saginaw and Midland counties.  It immediately became obvious that there was a need for organizing.  During the 3rd quarter of the 2016-2017 fiscal year, they invited two (2) representatives from each of the female Pan-Hel organizations (Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho and Zeta Phi Beta) to a meeting.

The group determined that its single purpose would be to identify African American females to run for public office and appointment to boards and commissions.  The Sisters meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
