Saginaw Deltas Celebrate 55 years of service at the Horizons

We embraced elegance and celebrated 55 years of impactful service with our Sneaker Ball Soiree on October 14, 2023. We honored outstanding community members and their contributions aligned with our Five-Point Programmatic Thrust. It was a night to remember!

The major programs of the sorority are based upon the organization’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust

  • The goals of Economic Development is to explore national and local trends that create unstable economic circumstances such as unemployment, underemployment, threats to Social Security, and wage inequities. The current National Economic Development initiative is Financial Fortitude, which is a process that will help program participants to set and define goals, develop a plan to achieve them, and to put the plan into action.

  • The purpose of Educational Development is to emphasize scholastic achievement and higher academic development, promote service learning, foster college preparation and planning, and continue educating the Saginaw Community.

  • The mission of International Awareness & Involvement is “to promote and enhance global citizenship within our sisterhood, by broadening the knowledge and understanding of other nations, increasing interest in international affairs and developing a greater appreciation for different backgrounds and cultures.

  • The goal of Physical and Mental Health is to fulfill the initiatives identified by Grand Chapter within our local Saginaw community and to educate our Saginaw Alumnae members about health issues that disproportionately affect Black women. The associated committee strives to raise awareness about the importance and benefits of healthy lifestyle changes that affect our health and wellness on a daily basis.

  • Our Founders’ participation in the Suffrage March for Women to Vote in March, 1913 was our organization’s first act of political awareness and involvement. Through social action our members positively impact the communities in which we serve. Public policy awareness in our communities continues to guide the activities of this program.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was founded on January 13, 1913 by 22 young women studying at Howard University. Eleven decades later, we honor their legacy as we move forward with fortitude in the pursuit of sisterhood, scholarship, service and social action.
